Introduction
Nasogastric feeding is recommend when the person is unable to feed through mouth, is simply unable to feed, or when the person is not ingesting enough water and food.
Enteral food must be prescribed by a physician or a nutritionist and the nasogastric tube must be placed by a nurse.
Enteral food can be acquired or prepared at home.
Homemade diets consist of natural cooked food and are prepared to be soft in consistency.
The commercially prepared food is more expensive and can only be used within a 24 hour period after opening.
