Caregiver’s safety

During lifting, moving and transfer of your family member it is important that you keep balance, body alignment (body mechanics).

If you have an articulated bed, you should raise the bed to your waist height for better spinal alignment for both you and your family member. This will minimize the risk for sprains and strains.

Maintain a stance that is shoulder-width in a 60 to 90-degree angle, knees slightly bent, in order to level body weight and improve balance.

When transferring your family member, shift your weight from your front foot to your back foot (lever movement). Keep balance using upper and lower muscles and help preventing any strains and injuries.
