Feeding through nasogastric tube – Introduction

Tube feeding is advised when the person is not able to feed by mouth, is unable to eat or when the amount of water and food is not being sufficient.

Enteral nutrition must be prescribed by the doctor or nutritionist and the tube must be placed by a nurse.

Enteral nutrition can be acquired or prepared at home.

Home-made diets are prepared with natural foods cooked and crushed by the hand blender and must have a liquid consistency.

The commercialized ready to eat meals are more expensive and can only be used for 24 hours after opening.
