To bathe – Introduction

Common steps to all phases of bed bath:

  1. The family caregiver must explain the family member about the procedure and purpose of the intervention and plan bathing, and how he/she can help.
  2. The family caregiver must provide the necessary resources for the person, such as towels, sheets, pyjamas or shirts, basin, sponge, shower gel, comb, deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste.
  3. Assess the environment for patient’s comfort and privacy.
  4. The person must be lying in the supine position
  5. In case there is an adjustable bed, block the bed wheels and adjust bed at waist height of the family caregiver to reduce muscle force and minimize muscle injuries, positioning the bed in a straight position.
  6. Wash hands or use an alcohol-based solution for disinfection
