Teething
The main function of teeth is for chewing food. The tongue helps to compress food and influences taste.
If your family member has a dental prosthesis, it must be safe and well-adapted, avoiding pain and discomfort. Be aware of any sores in the mouth, as they can impair ingestion of food and cause pain.
The placement of the prosthesis during the day helps to shape the mouth and facilitates chewing.
The patient’s oral hygiene after meals is essential (teeth, tongue and inner mouth), as well as the dental prosthesis, if applicable. If the patient needs assistance to perform this activity, you should encourage him/her to make circular movements on the inner and outer surfaces of the teeth, back and forth movement on the back (chewing area) and a single back to front movement on the tongue.
