Ear structures are very sensitive to extreme temperatures, so the otic solutions must be at room temperature.

Your family member must lye on one side, head slightly turned sideways to keep the ear facing up.

Clean the ear (with a towel or tissue and never with a cotton swab), only if necessary.

With the non-dominant hand, gently pull the pinna up and back.

Apply the prescribed number of drops.

Massage the ear tragus to facilitate penetration and absorption of the medication.

Ask your family member to remain in that position for three to five minutes.
