Close the nasogastric tube by folding it at the base.<\/p>\n<p>. Remove cap.<\/p>\n<p>. Aspirate gastric residue using a feeding syringe.<\/p>\n<p>. Check amount and texture of gastric residue.<\/p>\n<p>. If the content has a green or red colouration, reject and contact the nurse.<\/p>\n<p>. If the amount of the aspirated liquid exceeds more than half of the last ingested meal, inject the liquid to prevent liquid, electrolytes and enzymes loss. A new assessment should only occur after 1 to 2 hours.
